A day with Karina (Unicorn Workspaces)

November 30, 2021

Karina from Unicorn’s Sales staff says:
Unicorn stands for team offices in a relaxing work atmosphere, with personalized service and flexible contracts – simply convenient for companies of all sizes!

It’s 8 a.m. Are you already wide awake, or still in a deep sleep?

At 8 in the morning I’m already often in the yoga studio or even on my way to work after my yoga session. I’m an early riser, so it’s easy for me to be productive in the morning and afternoon. It’s important for me to deliberately set aside some time for myself, and that’s something I’d recommend for everyone, even if it’s just 5 minutes. Of course, there are also some days where I’m not cheerfully hopping out of bed at 7. But essentially, I’m a fan of having a morning routine.

It’s 11 o’clock, your first meeting is about to start. In meetings: what’s important for you, what makes them successful?

Actually, I prefer having meetings in person. This direct contact is often missing for me in online meetings. At Unicorn we’re able to work in a decentralized manner, so having the option of meeting digitally is a good solution, in particular for those who want to work remotely.

It’s 1 p.m. and your stomach is growling. What do you do? Will you review the latest analytics with your business partners? Or have a muesli bar and go out for a jog? Are you rather a stay-in-at-the-office type, or do you need to get out and get some fresh air?

To take a break in the afternoon and go out (or at least get away from my desk), to organize my thoughts, that means a lot to me. I also like to sit together with my colleagues at a big table, listening to them speak about what sort of things motivate them beside their work. Sitting in front of the laptop eating lunch while stressing out – that’s not my thing.

It’s 4 p.m. and you have a meeting with the press. They want to know more about you as a person. Has anyone in particular influenced you? Do you have a role model?

I don’t have a particular role model. I’ve probably been and will continue to be influenced by various people: family, friends, coworkers or professors. It’s important for me to learn from my own experiences, and perhaps to learn from the experiences of others as well.

It’s 6 p.m., is the workday coming to an end or just getting started?

I finish work somewhere between 5 and 6 pm. Who can still work focused and productively after putting in 7 or 8 working hours?

It’s 10 p.m. and you finally take a break. Time to read, to listen, to think. Are there some interesting books, podcasts, series or music which you’ve recently enjoyed?

I’m a self-confessed fan of trash TV. I can give you a pretty detailed low-down on things like the latest happenings in the Kardashian family circus or the current challenges that the jungle camp participants are facing. I’m probably not the one to ask if it’s about the latest, coolest shows on Netflix or podcast tips – but I do have one: Fest & Flauschig (Firm & Fluffy, German satire podcast).
