Podcast meets Software-as-a-Service. Podigee is Germanys leading service provider for podcast hosting and analytics. We are happy that Podigee has found their home in one of our Unicorn workspaces and accompany founder Mati through his day.

Learn the key facts about getting started and successfully developing your own podcast in the Podigee webinar.

8 AM: Are you wide awake or still in deep sleep?

Wide awake! I get up at 5:30 AM, make myself a Bulletproof Coffee, plan the day and start the first tasks. It’s by far the most effective time to work undisturbed, since everyone is still asleep. Between 7 AM and 8 AM, I take care of the kids and then make my way to the office.

11 AM: It’s time for the first meeting of the day. Today it’s a job interview with a potential new team member. What do you look for in a team member?

When it comes to candidates and employees, I focus very much on the right “drive” - I look for ambitious people who want to achieve something more in their job than just paying their rent. At the same time, they should be true professionals who enjoy working with other professionals. According to the motto: “A players hire A players, B players hire C players.”

1 PM: You are hungry. What do you do now? Do you check the latest analytics with your business partner? Do you grab a cereal bar and go for a run? Are you a couch potato or fresh air fanatic?

I always enjoy going out for lunch with my colleagues. As a foodie, I like to eat at restaurants, but as an amateur cook, I also like to bring something to eat. I believe in not eating at your computer or workplace. Breaks are more important than you think – when you allow yourself an appropriate amount of breaks, you can permanently change your maximum performance.

4 PM: You have a press appointment. It’s about the founding of your business. Who has particularly influenced you here? Do you have a role model?

My parents had a strong influence on me. My father wanted to work self-employed and start his own company, which was simply not possible in socialist Poland in 1988. So I emigrated to West Germany with my parents when I was 3 years old. Since then, I have always wanted to do something of my own. Almost 8 years ago, when I met Ben (then colleague, now co-founder and business partner at Podigee) and we came up with the idea of building a solution for podcasters, I knew I was facing a great opportunity. And after many years of work and “grinding”, my dream came true.

6 PM: Is it time to stop working, or are you just getting started?

My after-work hours usually start at 7 pm. As a family man, my kids have maximum priority until they go to sleep. I often cook something for everyone while listening to a podcast. After that, it’s time to talk about the day with my wife and plan the next tasks at home, if necessary. Time for family and friends is unfortunately very limited these days.

10 PM: Time to have a break, time to read, to listen and to think. What book/podcast/series/music are you recommending?

Of course, as a founder of a podcast tech company, I listen to a lot of podcasts. As a founder, I found “WeCrashed”, about the story of Adam Neumann and WeWork, very exciting. Otherwise, I really like the podcasts of Digital Kompakt, with many exciting interviews and topics about entrepreneurship, VCs and startups. When it comes to books “Inspired: how to create tech products customers love” by Marty Cagan, is my absolute highlight in the area of product development for small and large companies. And musically, I’ve always been a big fan of 80s music and am currently enjoying the revival of 80s music in the form of synthwave / retrowave.
